When it comes to recreating on mellow, flat rivers or in whitewater, safety comes first.  Learn basic recognition and avoidance of common river hazards, self-rescue techniques and simple rescues for swimmers or boaters in distress.  Emphasis will be on personal safety, and simple, commonly used skills in moving water.  This course is ideal for group leaders wanting to advance their own skills before heading out on the river.   Participants must be in good physical condition and have basic swimming ability.

Past participants include families who have experience in flat water and on whitewater river trips.  RiverStone Adventures takes a hands on “challenge by choice” approach to our courses.  We encourage participants to challenge themselves to develop confidence and ultimately be safer, and have more fun while recreating on rivers.   Our courses run best when participants display the willingness to have fun and learn in a group environment.

Gear requirements:  Type III PFD, appropriate river shoes (old sneakers work great).

Recommended gear:  Throw bag – minimum 50ft. of rope, whitewater helmet, dry or wetsuit, neoprene gloves, whistle, and river knife.

For gear rental or questions please contact us at 1-800-620-0269 or via email on our contact page.
